What Ever Happened to that Great Research We Did Last Year? And Why Do I Ask?
I ask because on many occasions during my Child Advocacy work-most recently as the founder and editor of the nonprofit Child Advocacy 360 News Network-I have witnessed such good research on children's rights and child well-being, and such poor communication of the results, and such miserable follow-up in leveraging the findings for the benefit of children that I have pledged to do my own " What ever happened to..." research on this major area of underachievement, and report it in these blog-like writings.

With so much good data from U.S government agencies and foundation-sponsored research, it nonetheless appears to us as child advocacy journalists that no one has ever fully calculated the economic cost of unconscionable damage to innocent children from abuse and neglect, miserably managed foster care programs, and failed child welfare systems. Even so, the data we have speaks powerfully to the issues at hand.

When I read Caitlin Johnson's article on Hope Meadows, I was struck by how smartly Brenda Eheart and Martha Power, the founders of this intergenerational community in 1993, have adapted to changing conditions over the years. Therein lies a model for all of us.

"Paradoxically," Caitlin writes, "it is Hope Meadows' success and stability that is bringing new challenges. The passing of time has changed the dynamic of the community: many of the children are now teenagers, preparing for life after high school."
